2012 Cheyenne Wells Election
There are countless reasons why people choose to run for public office. For this reason, becoming a municipal elected official can be one of the most rewarding experiences of your life.

The Town of Cheyenne Wells is seeking nominations for the April 3, 2012 election on four positions. Terms up for election are Mayor Monte Baker, Trustee Rayetta Palmer, Trustee Marion Henderson and Trustee Sharon Hevner. The Mayor and Trustees will be for a 4-year term. Cheyenne Wells Municipal elections are non-partisan.

Qualifications for office of Mayor or Trustee you must be:

  • A Citizen of the United States
  • Must be 18 years of age
  • A Registered Voter
  • Reside inside the city limits of Cheyenne Wells at least 12 consecutive months preceding the date of the election

Nominating petitions will be available for circulation in the Town Clerk’s office, 151 South 1st, Cheyenne Wells, CO 80810 on Monday, February 13, 2012 and must be returned by Friday. March 2, 2012. January 4 Absentee ballot applications available.
February 10 Last day for clerk to prepare nomination forms.
February 13 First day to circulate petitions.
February 20 President’s Day (City Clerk’s Office Closed)
March 2 Last day to circulate and file nomination petition.
March 5 Last day to register to vote for municipal election.
March 9 Last day to withdraw petition.
March 13 Contribution reports required by the Fair Campaign Practices Act to be filed with the municipal clerk.
Any contribution or in-kind over $500.00 received from now until the election is subject to the Fair Campaign Practices Act and must be reported within 48 hours.
March 16 Clerk may cancel election if the election of persons to office is the only matter before the voters, and if, at the close of business on March 13 there are not more candidates than offices to be filled at such election, including write-in candidates filing affidavits of intent.
March 20 Contribution report required by the Fair Campaign Practice Act to be filed with the municipal clerk.
April 3 Election Day
May 2 Final Contribution report required by the Fair Campaign Practice Act to be filed with the municipal clerk.

Water Fees
A RESOLUTION BY THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE TOWN OF CHEYENNE WELLS, COLORADO AMENDING OR SUPPLEMENTING THE CONNECTION FEE RATES, MINIMUM MONTH CHARGES, MINIMUM USAGE OF WATER AND THE REPEAL OF WATER USE RESTRICTIONS, SPECIAL PERMITS, ENFORCEMENT AND BUSINESS EXEMPTIONS REGARDING WATER PROVIDED BY THE TOWN.

WHEREAS, the Board of Trustees of the Town of Cheyenne Wells, Colorado did approve and adopt Ordinance Number 152 on or about the 3rd day of November, 1980 dealing with the establishment of fees, rates, charges penalties, rules and regulations dealing with the providing of water within and without the incorporated limits of said Town, and

WHEREAS, said Ordinance Number 152 was further supplemented and amended by the adoption and approval of Ordinance Number 158 on or about the 7th day of December, 1981, and

WHEREAS, said Ordinance Number 152 together with portions of Ordinance Number 158 were subsequently repealed and reenacted pursuant to the adoption and approval of Ordinance Number 165 on or about the 6th day of June 1983, and

WHEREAS, pursuant to Ordinance Numbers 152, 158, and 165, said Board of Trustees did adopt Resolution Number 8 on or about the 4th day of April, 1984 establishing, among other things, various connection fees, minimum monthly charges, minimum monthly rates, water use restrictions, special permits and enforcement and business exemptions concerning the provision, consumption and usage of water both within and without the incorporated limits of said Town, and

WHEREAS, the Board of Trustees of the Town of Cheyenne Wells, Colorado is now desirous of further amending said Resolution Number 8 as more fully set forth herein,

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE TOWN OF CHEYENNE WELLS, COLORADO as follows, to-wit:

1. That Ordinance Numbers 152, 158, and 165 specifically provide for the adoption by resolution of, among other things, schedule of minimum monthly rates, charges, penalties, and fees for the use, distribution and consumption of water, obtaining of water permits as well as requiring a deposit for the same, rates of the usage of water, and adoption of rules and regulations as may be deemed necessary to govern the operations, connections, usage and governance of the water system.

2. That a meter deposit and connection fee is hereby established for all new consumers for commercial or residential establishments where no service presently exists as follows:

Meter Deposit $100

Connections within the incorporated limits of the Town
Plus cost of supplies, equipment, and labor $250

Connections outside the incorporated limits of the Town
Plus cost of supplies, equipment, and labor $4500

Disconnection Fee $25

Reconnect Fee $25

Approximate 2012 Tap Fees $900

Coin Meter Per 1000 Gallon Fee $ 3

Penalty Fee 10%
3. That a minimum monthly charge for water users and consumers inside and outside the city limits of the Town is hereby established for all consumers as follows in Waterworks billing rate sheet which is attached as exhibit “A”.

4. That the remaining sections, paragraphs, and provisions of Ordinance 152, 158, and 165 as well as Resolution Number 8 not otherwise amended or supplemented herein or otherwise repealed in full are hereby ratified and confirmed by said Board of Trustees of said Town.

5. That the connection fees, minimum, monthly charges schedules of rates and minimum usage as well as all other provisions shall be and become effective the 1st day of January, 2011.

Burn Permits
    Town of Cheyenne Wells 2012 Yearly Burn Permits are available at the Town Clerk’s Office for $15.00. Please stop by the Town Clerk’s Office at 151 South 1st West to pick one up. Burn Permits are only granted for yard debris items only.
    The Town of Cheyenne Wells reminds everyone that is planning an upcoming construction project for a structure, cement work, signs, or fences on their property must file a building permit prior to construction. Building Permits are available at the Town Clerk’s Office at 151 South 1st West or on our website at www.townofcheyennewells.com.
